Hey Gang,

What a cold day it was today at Aspen Snowmass. It was -20 degrees this morning. Great day of training today with Lyndon Sheehan. Just wanted to tell you a little story about Lyndon.  Lyndon Sheehan is so money. A knee injury sidelined Lyndon while training pipe during the X games last year. Lyndon has been working hard to dominate at pipe again, im talking heavy weight lifting, hiking mountains in the Himalayas, wombat wrestling, the whole 9 yards. Lyndon knows what it takes to get back to that X games level. This is a little glimpse into what we were working with Lyndon Sheehan on today. Props to Lyndon for working so hard to accomplish his dreams! Team AVSC Is privileged to have you!

Greetings,

Please, bookmark my Vlog because i want you to frequent it. I cordially beg for you to bare with me until i figure out how to embed video, pictures and other media into the program. I will be putting time and energy into it. I hope you will frequent for updates on our other great inspiring athletes. Mike Mertion, TJ Schiller, Mark Frank Mantoya, Kyle Smain, Skyler. 4 sho!

So a ski company employee was fired this weekend, for talking smack so to speak. He decided he was going to go into the 5 star, 5 diamond, Little Nell and pass out some flyers. I'm still trying to get a hold of 1 of these flyers;  so therefore i can not confirm what the document said. At the aspen times website you can read the article.

http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20110201/NEWS/110209999/1077&ParentProfile=1058

Basically, im just trying to make a point. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. In a way what Lee did was courageous. To go stand up against this towns main financial entity is ballsy. But at the end of the day, he will not be able to teach at one of the finest places to teach in the world. I admit it,  im a part time employee, i have my private clients. Im in the same boat as Lee. I have no qualms with Ski Co though they are awesome in so many ways. I love Teaching and i find getting paid for it is awesome.  Maybe Lee will apologize and Ski Co will have him back. Hey everybody makes mistakes.

Oh yeah, i watched a movie last night. You have to let me know if you have seen it before its called Frozen. I was on my X-box 360 Netflix just cruising through the millions of movies. When all of a sudden i came across Frozen. I just had a conversation about this movie on the lift at Snowmass. If you have not seen this movie yet, and want to see it, then stop reading now, and start on the next paragraph. There were a couple gross parts in the movie, like when she woke up and her hand was stuck to the bar. yeah and of course when the guy thought it would be a good idea to jump. You know; let me ask you, how would you have gotten down? I think i would have took the snowboard and threw it over the cable,   slid down to the next chair,  then again to the tower climb down the tower. Anyway. you got a better idea? Here is an interview i did at the X games!

Torin Yater Wallace Wins X Games Silver

Thursday, February 03, 2011 by aaron

Greetings,

First i want to say congrats  to Torin Yater-Wallace for scoring 2nd against the best in the world, on the highest stage in the world. One day we will have the Olympics but for now X is the pinnacle. Props also, go out to the entire AVSC Freestyle coaching staff.

I am so excited to have this forum. What a privilege it is to voice my opinion on the future of our sport and to give you a first hand account on the from lines of the action. I want to shout out Buttermilk for hosting the X mayhem! There were kids everywhere jacked on Extreme sour War heads. Much respect go's out to the Global force for good, our great Navy for what they do to protect our country.

As you may know if you frequent Buttermilk Mountain, the airport sits just west of the mountain. So on occasion when wind patterns call for it,  planes fly say 100 ft above the mountain base. Well to make a long story short, a fighter jet decided to buzz the venue on sat at 4.30. I was walking in the direction of the airport and saw it coming but Aidan Sheehan didn't and almost had a heart attack. I laughed so hard i choked on my free candy grub. Congrats to the Aidan, the Technica / Blizzard, Smith Optics athlete for the podium finish, he is used to pulling down bigger checks but hey money is money.

So Here is Big Poppa In action! Enjoy this pipe run it is a thing of beauty!

Seirus Aspen Snowmass 3

Greetings,

I took the day off yesterday from skiing. Nursing Tendonitis in my Achilles tendon. This injury is weird cause it only hurts when i put my boots on. I think i need some new Boots. I'm on the Rossignol SAS 120 with the Vibram soles. I think i have ridden these for 2 and 1 half years now. I usually will keep a good solid reliable boot for 3 years. So i guess the time is coming to get some new kennels. I have my eye on the Ace of spade boot. I'm pretty sure those will be in my possession in the very near future. Willy Booker over at Nordica USA has the ship steered in the Right Direction. But for now i will just heal up and get ready for two of my favorite weeks of the year. Stay tuned!hope everyone has been getting alot of snow lately. We have started to get more.

Not sure if you were aware of this or not but there was a missing 28 year old Male who disappeared on thanks giving weekend. It was so cold that night. I remember the night like yesterday, I went into town to check out Blind Melon at the Base of Aspen Mountain, also known as Ajax. That night there were fireworks too. He supposedly got of at my stop, and i guess that was true. He was found underneath the Maroon Creek Bridge. I will just say my most heart felt condolences go out to his family and friends. I hope they can find closure, through the grievance process, in the recovery of his body. Rest in Peace -George Aldrich

Seirus Aspen Snowmass 2

Friends, What a wonderful day of skiing. We had a full turn out form Park and Pipe team 1. Smith Optics were so money for all the team members who chose smith optics as their eye wear today. I Wore my IOS with the silver reflective lens. They fit the Best with the Maze Helmet. that's what i rock. Well I know for sure Aidan Sheehan and Torin Yater Wallace rock that combo. That's about as pro as it gets. Well maybe not Aidan. He did get 2nd in the Aspen Snowmass Open Slopestlye in 2010 but needs a few more solid finishes. The Blizzard ski's that Aidan was rocking today were pretty sick. Some new park ski i think its called, Blizzard Origin, well im not 100% sure. But they are not out yet. They were kind of gold and off white and black. Im going to give you guys a few shoots from the day and let you see for yourself and i will put up footage of the team from Yesterday. Torin was rocking some Armada park skis not sure which ones, maybe the Pipe cleaners or T-Hall . Man im pretty sold on having good equipment that you feel really confident and comfortable standing over. You know the sound that the binding makes when clicking in. You know that reaffirming sound you get from the heal piece that lets you know no mater how much that ski gets jarred your good to go. What in your opinion is the most reassuring binding in the industry. I am currently on Rossignol bindings and to be honest i think the FKS neon orange binding is the best. I believe my opinion is biased because i come from a racing back round and in racing this system is effective. I was turned away from the notion of the functional heal angle that these bindings have. I heard of a girl who had her mind i say it vagina torn open by the heal piece and tore arteries. Which led to sever blood loss. Im sure we have all been attacked by our ski before. Well at least i have, a few times. Once i landed on another brand binding heal piece. I was lucky enough to come away with only a softball size lump on my upper outer thigh, and no feeling in my leg for a few days. Don't get dominated by your equipment people. Your supposed to own your equipment, not get owned by it! Speaking of owning Gage Carr was owning his rodeo 5 and out of no where rodeo 7's this young man, and i emphasize the young part is flourishing. Ok so i hope you enjoy the footage and check back soon for more.

Seirus Aspen Snowmass

 dec 12th

Up earl this morning in anticipation of a wonderful day of skiing. I feel like i have that Christmas morning feeling every time i wake like this. Grey skies look to be ready to part ways and, sucomb to the sunny days we are know for here in Aspen Snowmass. I will be wearing my Signal patrol glove today because they work in any conditions and i know the weather will again change back to snowy and cool before the day is over. I hope the team all shows on time today. Being as though yesterday we had a few stragglers. I really Want Hunter, Blake, and Niles to ski with us on a more consistent basis. A call home to moms may be in-order. Our program is very unique and to get the most out of it you need full participation. I have been working with landing percentages lately trying to hold these guys accountable for their progression. Stomp 2 tricks out of 3 w/ the grab and then the athletes are able to move on to more revolutions. Off the subject i want to say that Nordica skis are so sick. I love there socks too. I really have been happy with their product and can't wait to try more. Maybe ill get to ski test like i have in the past out in Snowbird. Thats always a fun time. Sam Bass and the gang were always putting on a classy test.

Speaking of equipment, i had to adjust a few bindings yesterday morning.  If your reading this and you know its a powder day crank those din settings. While negotiating the Big Burn at Snowmass mountain yesterday i had an athlete double eject from her skis . Everyone on the team just kind of skied right by her is if she was fine. Turns iut she lost 1 of her skis, it only took her a min or to to find it but, with so much snow and the way ig gets punchy and layered from accumulation and temp change. The ski has a tendency to submarine. You don't want to spend half your day cyphering through snow to find that needle in the haystack. So thats my tip for the day. Keep those din setting appropriate to the conditions, it only takes 2 seconds to stop at a tool bench on the mountain and adjust them or pay the price. You know that old saying there are no friends on a powder day? Well  there is a limit to how much one can wait for another, but if it involves a lost ski, stop and help a fellow ski bretheren when in need of a hand. Ok that wraps it up for today, hope you all have a . Again Smith optics reigns supreme when it comes to comfortable eye wear.  If you have a pair let your friends know; if you don't, get you christmas list into Santa soon. because they are going fast.     Powder to the Peaceful!

Trip to Bariloche

Wednesday, January 11, 2012 by webmaster

my last couple weeks of hectic greatness. It all started at work , when I had to go to town to pick up some tools, as i'm going to town i get a text from ™ myles saying call me asap, so i call him and bam next day i'm flying to vancouver to head to argentina for a rip curl team shoot, luckily my boss was extremely nice to let me go for two weeks with only a days notice. So I meet the other canadian rip curl rider willey tesso in van and we are out to Bariloche to ski some pow in september  and thats one thing i didn't except for my 2010 september.

we arrive to Bariloche with a fresh 2 meter fall and blue bird sky's for 5 days straight  , you can only imagine how fun that was. But the one thing willey and I did not see coming our way was that we had to hike to the backcountry without sleds or anything, I'm pretty sure I lost 10 pounds, so for 5 days we skied sick lines and jumps and for the last 5 days we got to travel the town and land around it like the jungle and what I would call the desert there.

What I learnt mostly on this trip was that I'am so grateful for my snowmobile to get me out to the backcountry :),We also got the experience the Bariloche night life from 3am to 7 am, probably the most exhausting night ever just trying to stay awake, wont be doing those hours anytime soon. Well that was my trip and now i'm back at work for few more months then ski season, so stoked! see you guys out there!
